An asteroid 500 metres in size, with the rather obscure name of 2006 BQ6, will pass within 14LD of the Earth`s atmosphere on 29th July 2006....

LD is the unit of measurement used to measure how far away the asteroid is, with 1LD = 384,401 kilometers.

In the case of 2006BQ6 it will pass 5,381,614 kilometers from our atmosphere, close enough to be classified as a potentially hazardous asteroid.
