  Before I put the live site up, I fiddled around with a few media galleries, tried creating my own, spoke to some people etc etc...
  I came across Media Gallery and at first glance knew it was my weapon of choice when it came to integrating a really classy looking gallery for my site users.
  With its seamless integration into the Geeklog core, it really is a breeze to configure things without too much bother. Media Gallery is an open source gallery created by Mark Evans...he is continuously adding new features, and perhaps the most important factor in my decision to implement Media Gallery is that he is very jacked when it comes to assisting his user base with problems they encounter.
